Senior Tag Rules

Senior Tag Rules 2013
The most important thing to keep in mind is that very few local local organizations condone the senior tag activities. With this being said, it has developed into a yearly occurrence and people have almost come to expect it. Please, be smart though. Don’t do anything that could jeopardize your future or get you in serious trouble with the police. With that being said here are the ground rules for Senior Tag this year:

1) To eliminate someone, you must shoot them with a squirt gun. There must be clear evidence of a shot. As soon as a shot has been made, report it to the Senior Tag Twitter account or send a text message to the people in charge (Phone numbers will be posted once the games begin). If there is any dispute from the person who was accused of being shot, it will be listened to by a three person committee. Which ever side receives the majority ruling will be the FINAL say and the game will proceed.

2) The only types of squirt guns that are legal are the handheld action ones. No super soakers or any type of squirt gun with a pump. This gives an unfair advantage to certain players who purchase these handguns, and they are nearly impossible to conceal if you are making a public attack. Handheld guns ensure that both the attacking and defending parties will have an equal opportunity to win a duel.

3) For the more “creative” people who may have been thinking of trying something, only water is allowed to be put inside of a squirt gun. If anything else is put inside, even as a joke, it will lead to the guilty person being kicked out of the game for the round. If they are caught again, they will be suspended for the rest of the competition.

4) To avoid being eliminated, the persons involved in a conflict can get naked. For the sake of the game, naked will be defined as wearing nothing but socks and/or shoes. This is more of a safety rule so people will not injure themselves while running at or from someone. If the attack is made while the person is still taking off their clothes, they will be considered out. All articles of clothing minus footwear need to be removed before safety can be achieved. If the final item or two of clothing is in your hand, this will be ruled as naked. Additionally, if there is a dispute, the three person committee will again rule on any discrepancies reported to them in a scenario like this.

5) The other way people can avoid being hit is when they are in “safe zones.” This year, the safe zones include school grounds and school events, Lifetime Fitness, and houses of religion. If a player is in the parking lot of any of these places, it will be designated as safe too. There are specific reasons why each of these have been designated as safe zones. Most importantly of these places are the school grounds. For the game, the school grounds will cover everything from the “back forty” to the bike path in front of the school. If you are caught playing on school grounds, you will be at the mercy of the administration for how they will handle discipline.

6) For players’ houses, there are a few rules that exist. One, you cannot forcibly enter someone’s house (First, this is breaking and entering and you can go to jail, and also it would be pretty awkward if the opposing player wasn’t home). You can try and deceive someone into letting you into their house, though. Permission from ANY legal resident living in the house will be granted as an invitation. As long as you are invited in, any kill will in a player’s home will be counted as valid. Also, if a door or window is ALREADY OPEN you may fire into the player’s home in order to register a kill. These rules apply to garages as well; if the garage door is up, you can fire into the garage area. You cannot however walk into the opponent’s garage and wait for them inside. If you are attacked at your home and feel someone broke any of these rules, please follow the procedure in rule #1 for reporting it.

7) The most dangerous aspect of senior tag involves the use of cars for making an attack. To avoid car accidents, if a vehicle is in motion, no shots in or out are allowed to be made. The vehicle must be at a COMPLETE STOP before firing. When the car is stopped, shooting will be allowed, but as soon as a car returns to motion, firing must be ceased. Yet again, this is a safety rule, and also against the law. Last year, there was a car accident, and I guarantee you that damaging your car will be more expensive than the money you make from winning this game.

8) Play will unfold in a single-elimination, bracket style format. The first round will start on Monday April 14th at 12:00 AM. Each round will be four days in length (So the round will end on Friday April 18th at 11:59 PM. The sixth day will be used as a tiebreaker day and a ceasefire day for all remaining teams. On the seventh day a new round will start. (As the game unfold and if the rounds seem to be dragging on, the rounds may be shortened)

9) The winning team will be declared based on who has more people left at the conclusion of the round. If after the tiebreaker, both teams still have the same amount of people remaining, the team who got “first blood” for the entire round will advance. At the start of the next round, all teammates will be allowed to resume play.

10) Working with other teams and making truces to help each other is allowed. However, do this at your own risk. If you get stabbed in the back by your alliance, there is nothing you can do about it because you will be out for the round.

11) You may attack players on any other grounds not deemed safe in these rules. Yet again, be smart before attacking someone especially, at a public establishment. If a store employee recognizes you are playing senior tag and asks to leave his/her business, it is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED you listen to him/her. If you don’t and they decide to call the police, you will be personally responsible for your actions.

12) If you go to your workplace while you are not on duty, it will not be considered safe. For example, if you work at McDonald’s and run there to escape an attacker, they can still shoot you for a legal kill.

13) Clarification of an earlier rule: Inside of churches and religious building will always be deemed as safe. However, if a player goes to a church event during the week (ex. bible study), the parking lot will not be considered safe and legal kills can be made.

14) No other weapon of ANY KIND will be permitted during the playing of the game. This includes paintball guns, air soft guns, etc. Only handheld squirt guns will be allowed in your possession during the game, and if you are caught possessing an illegal weapon you could face disqualification from the round or game.

15) If there is any rule you believe is currently missing, please direct message the Senior Tag Twitter account immediately so it can be clarified for everyone before play begins. Rules may be modified in between rounds if something important is discovered to be missing.

16) No kidnappings will be allowed. At some schools, players are allowed to capture players and remove them from safe zones in order to collect a legal kill. This action will not be tolerated during our senior tag, as it completely defeats the purpose of having safety zones.

17) Below is the expected calendar for the first three rounds of play:

April 15th-19th: Round 1
April 20th: Cease Fire/Tie Breaker day
April 21st-25th: Round 2
April 26th: Cease Fire/Tie Breaker day
April 27th-May 1st: Round 3
May 2nd- Cease Fire/Tie Breaker day

ONE FINAL IMPORTANT MESSAGE

Before starting senior tag there was an idea proposed to donate the money we collect to the Kyle Colello and Lyndsey Rice Scholarships fund if no team wins and the game dissolves midway through like it has in years past. Another possible idea was taking the action one step further. Being the last class to graduate when the tragedy happened, it would be respectful and meaningful if we donated an amount of about ¼ or 1/3 of the money we collect automatically to the funds (For those wondering, there will likely be somewhere between $1100-1200 in the total pot). The winning team would then receive the rest. If you are playing, please voice your opinion on one or both of these ideas to the Twitter account ASAP, so we can get a general feel for how the grade is responding. If there is overwhelming support, we may go through with one of the two donation path. If the grade is fairly split, we will keep the procedure as it has been in the past and divide the money amongst the remaining teams at the conclusion of the game

Thank you to everyone who signed up to play and good luck!
